About Women in Data Science
The Women in Data Science (WiDS) initiative aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field.
WiDS started as a conference at Stanford in November 2015. Soon after, volunteer ambassadors took WiDS around the world by organizing similar conferences in their communities under the WiDS umbrella. As the WiDS community grew, WiDS added additional year-round programming in education, innovation and leadership to strengthen community connections, and support, educate and inspire women everywhere.
WiDS’ global community takes part in 200+ events around the world and a global datathon each year. The community has access to upskilling workshops and educational resources that are used by instructors at higher-ed institutions in over 136 countries. The NextGen program is expanding its reach to younger students through a vibrant network of collaborators. The Career Catalyst platform provides a unique opportunity for the community to connect and build a network for career opportunities and mentoring discussions. WiDS Worldwide programs have upskilled and mentored over 150,000 participants in more than 160 countries.
